.OfflineCache begone
Pro tip: if you’re using IMAP accounts with Mail.app, you may have a large useless folder called .OfflineCache. Mine was 1.5 GB large, for no reason that I could determine. I’m sure it’s related to using Gmail’s IMAP support and having a large All Mail folder. I’ve since disabled my All Mail folder for much better performance.
The .OfflineCache folder lives in ~/Library/Mail/IMAP-youremailaddress/ but to see it you’ll have to open a Terminal window. (If you cd into the right folder, and then type open . you can get a Finder window.)
I quit Mail, threw the contents in the trash and re-launched to no ill effect.
