→ The Toronto Star
The Star has deployed a new design of their site today. At first glance, it’s a much cleaner, grid-obedient layout, with more space for each story. Subsections are now two clicks away from the homepage — a change I find for the worse. They’re also offering four different “views” for the homepage. Besides the normal one we’re used to, there’s a photo-centric visual view, a blog-style timeline view, and a everything-is-equal grid view. I can see the appeal of the visual view, but the others seem moot to me. Finally, I notice that they’ve put Helvetica ahead of Arial in their font-family rule. Anti-Arialists rejoice.
