An outrageously illiterate article from The Globe and Mail that misinterprets the very research article it purports to explain. The research article doesn’t actually mention “fresh” or “local” fish — rather, it’s a comparison of how the environmental impact of fish farming differs in different countries. The Globe writer also totally conflates “local” with “fresh” — two entirely different things.
I don’t think anyone would debate that fresh fish flown across the ocean has more environmental impact than farmed, frozen fish transported in a tanker. But this particular research says nothing about local, wild-caught fish, which almost certainly has the least carbon impact of all.
Some interesting thoughts on how to improve a sore point of the web: signing into the umpteen different sites that one uses on a daily basis.
Nifty bookmarklet that changes a webpage on the fly to look like a book with nice, large type, proper margins, and no distractions. Very cool. (via David Pogue)
